My first gig photography was at the Railway, its the place we hung out at as teens, it was somewhere my parents went when they were younger and it’s where my (now adult) kids go to see gigs locally. So it seemed somehow appropriate that it would be at the Railway that I had my first real go at photographing gigs. The gig was Charlie Smith’s acoustic night, and he was in need of a photographer, I was already there with my camera and so, after prompting from the lovely D’Kenzion (also a musician), he asked for me to help out in return for tickets to see the show. I took him up on it (with fair warning that I hadn’t done it before) as it was something I wanted to try and it felt a little like fate (I am a tiny bit superstitious but only about weird things lol).
At the end of May I was invited to come see Charlie play again, this time I was not asked to bring my camera, it was just a thank you for the photos I took, that you can see in an earlier blog post. I did, however, bring my camera, because I can’t leave it alone lol. So here is one of the performers of the night, this is Joshua Chinappen, he’s incredibly talented and his expressiveness made for some great images.
Check out below for the mono images from this set, you’ll also find a link to his site.

This is the second set from my evening at the Railway Inn, after being invited by Charlie to come along to another of his acoustic nights. He also holds them in Southampton and other areas, so I recommend keeping an eye out because he finds some good music to put on for you. RhiRhi is a good example of this, just her and her guitar, simple but beautiful. She has a lovely voice and music that’s easy to enjoy, I recommend her to anyone who is curious.
Here are the mono images from this set, I will update my main page with these and any colour ones in the near future. Check them out:

The third, but not final set, this is from Charlie’s set, there will be some colour ones and all of the mono are available to see on my site, as always the link to that is under the photos. It's always a pleasure to work with Charlie, I recommend checking him out if you haven't already.
