Further work on #alternatives

So I shared my first intentional shoot for this project, and I hope to do more soon, but in the mean time I've been photographing people who live a lifestyle outside of what's considered normal, mainstream lives. I've photographed friends and family, bands whole they perform and events full of people living lives that would be considered outside of the mainstream, outside of ordinary, alternative. They may not define themselves in this manner, but they fit the definition, to some degree or another.

First up Hunting Hearts, they are an LGBTQ pink band, they describe themselves as “unapologetically queer, trans, genrequeer alt-rock punk band from Southampton, England.” and I must say, I love their music, my kids (not really kids anymore lol) adore them, and have seen them several times. They look and fit the definition of what my friends and I considered alternative back at the start of the millennium (that makes is sound so much further away).

The support act that evening was a solo artist named Dixie Dix (they/them) and again, their aesthetic fits the earlier definition. Or at least how the term alternatives was used when I was a teen.

For those interested, these were taken at the Railway Inn, in Winchester, it was considered popular with self described alternatives and with those who fit the definition before it became a label. I drank there, my parents went there, it is, in my opinion, the best and only dedicated small music venue in Winchester.
